After the long winters, Detroit comes alive in the spring, and the first pitch is the Detroit Tigers Home Opener. It is more than just the start of baseball season. This is a tradition, a reunion and a celebration all wrapped into one big citywide tailgate. “It is like St. Patrick’s Day, but for baseball fanatics,” says James Mathews of 3 Kings. Dewitt Moore echoes this sentiment, noting, “It is a holiday. Detroiters take off work, people celebrate, and it starts bright and early.” Every April, Detroiters unite, shedding their differences (and hopefully warm coats) to embrace the common joy of baseball.
On April 5, 2025, the Rock Family of Companies and our tenants throughout Detroit are taking the field to welcome visitors with unique experiences, celebrations and deals. Among them is 3 Kings, led by James Mathews and Dewitt Moore, hosting an all-day event next to their downtown Detroit location at 1414 Griswold.
Mathews said, “3 Kings is setting up a forty-by-twenty tent with a stage, a DJ, specialty sliders, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, beans, and all kinds of snacks.” Stop by for your chance to attend the game. Moore adds, “We will even be raffling off Tigers tickets for the game.” 3 Kings is a memorabilia store, specializing in appraisal, cards and all things sports. But, at the core, it is about more than that. “It is not just about the cards or memorabilia. It is about community and creating memorable experiences for families and friends,” said Moore.
Mathews elaborates on their motivation: “We do this for more than profit. The best things in life are not measured on a spreadsheet. They are measured in moments. The moment you open a new pack of cards, not knowing what’s inside. Or the moment we see a dad come in with his son and find a shared passion for sports cards.”
3 Kings sees the Home Opener as a chance to connect with their community, turning their downtown store into a destination where fans come together, bond over sports and celebrate Detroit. “We are excited to share what we have built here. To be part of a Detroit tradition is an honor for us,” Moore says proudly.
Buildings will be lit up in Tigers colors. Rocket is sponsoring the Tigers Home Opener. Gilly’s Clubhouse and Rooftop is hosting an Opening Day party featuring a live DJ, Tigers trivia and more.
Many of Bedrock’s tenants are also getting in the game with events and deals of their own:
