Johnnie and Alexa Turnage of Black Tech Saturdays understand what it means to build something bigger than themselves. Their mission is about more than just technology—it is about people, community, and creating opportunities that did not exist before. They see firsthand how powerful it is when businesses invest not just in profits, but in people.
Dan Gilbert and the Family of Companies have been there from the beginning, standing behind their vision, providing resources, making connections, and helping to fuel innovation in Detroit. Johnnie and Alexa are clear: this work is about impact. Success in this city is shared—your win is our win. That is what it means to work For More Than Profit.
What started as an idea—five people in a room at Newlab—has grown into a movement. Black Tech Saturdays now brings together hundreds of people every week to learn, connect, and build. Johnnie and Alexa saw what was happening in other cities and asked, Why not Detroit? With the right community and support, they knew they could create something just as powerful here.
The Rocket Community Fund was one of the first to believe in their vision, helping to make connections, bring in speakers, and provide the resources needed to take Black Tech Saturdays to the next level. Johnnie and Alexa recognize the importance of this support. When founders, talent, and creatives come together, innovation happens faster. Ideas grow, businesses thrive, and Detroit’s tech scene gets stronger.
This is how we build. This is how Detroit wins.
